Local Flavor

Our Favorite Local Spots

Feeling a little rumbly in your tumbly? As a family-owned business, we like to eat at locally-owned spots. We mostly head to Joplin to eat, but Galena, Riverton, & Baxter Springs have some quick bites, as well. We have only included our favorites on this list - Old Riverton Post- approved!
Quick Bites on Kansas Route 66

Delis & Diners:
  •  The Old Riverton Store ·  7109 KS-66, Riverton · A historical marker on Route 66. The sandwiches are fresh & made-to-order. It's a fun place to stop in, especially if you are a Route 66 buff.
  • Sweet Creek Diner & Bakery  ·  300 W 7th St, Galena · A quintessential small town American diner that serves comfort food favorites for both breakfast & lunch.
  • Red Onion Expressoria ·  1619 Rte 66, Galena · Right outside of Galena going towards Joplin. It has a great versatile menu  i.e sandwiches, salads and pasta. (Kind of like a McAlister's, but locally-owned with specialty items). Breakfast is also available. Closed on Sundays.
Pizza
  • Bricks & Brews Woodfire Grill & Pub ᐧ1124 Military Ave, Baxter Springs, KS ᐧ Located in a building circa 1900 on Route 66, this auto parts store turned pizza joint features some of the best woodfire pizza around! Grab a craft beer on tap, catch some live music, & sit back and relax!
Mexican:
  • Mi Torritos Mexican Restaurant  ᐧ418 S Main St, Galena, KS ᐧ Order the Queso Fundido!

Heading East to Missouri Route 66
  • The Bruncheonette ·424 N Main St, Joplin, MO · A great brunch spot on North Main in Joplin. Super creative & authentic menu. Last time I was there, I ordered their Pulled Pork Pancakes. So good! *Tip: Go early! Seating is limited, and there is usually a line. They open at 9:00 am.
  • Woody's Woodfire Pizza  ·831 W. 7th St, Joplin, MO · A pizzaria & bar on Missouri Route 66 that looks like a hole in the wall, but has great pizza! Was featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. We like "The Mutha" and "The Greek." Good selection of craft beers, as well.
  • Hackett’s Hot Wings & Sports Room ᐧ524 S Joplin Avenue Joplin, MO· Featuring Memphis-style hot wings (& 13 unique flavors) located in the historic district of downtown Joplin. Other menu items include catfish, pork-chop sandwiches, hushpuppies, fried okra, corn nuggets and homemade desserts.
  • Club 609 · 609 S Main St, Joplin, MO · Casual fine dining with a fun atmosphere for adults. Delicious food, funky art, great happy hour prices.
  • Wilder’s Steakhouse  · 1216 S Main St, Joplin, MO ·For the best steak in the area and an excellent mid-century dinner atmosphere, we suggest Wilder’s. It's a Missouri Rt 66 favorite, and it is our #1 choice for a nice dinner out!
